The idea behind Investment comes from Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:19-21: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, . . . But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, . . . For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
The idea of investing money to give to mission work started in the 1880’s when Dr. J.H. Kellogg appealed for members to plant an acre of strawberries and give the proceeds to medical missionary work. James and Ellen White tended one-an-a-half acres for a similar purpose.
Now, thanks to the brainchild of our forefathers, nearly 10% of all mission work is funded through Investment money. All Investment funds go the General Conference where 75% is placed into the World Mission Fund to help support existing mission endeavors and 25% is divided equally among the world divisions for approved mission expansion projects.
